06/11/06 - New Interview from Joseph Williams

Recently Blue Desert website had the pleasure to do an interview with Joseph Williams about his music work, Vertigo Project and more. When we asked him about his work with Bill Champlin he said: Bill has such a great sound and I love to sing with him. Not only because we work well together but also because we make each other laugh so much. I don't know if there is any special chemistry between him and me, but we do work well together. He is the best vocal arranger there is and it is always a treat to bounce ideas off one another. Read the full interview at our Front Seat section. Read more ...

29/09/06 - News from Joseph

Hey Folks,
Joseph here!
I am continuing my work composing for American Television programs. Currently I am co-composing for 2 shows. “Kidnapped” on NBC...And “The War At Home” on FOX with W. G. Snuffy Walden!
Also, I will appear on a new record by Christian recording artist
Brian Doerksen singing called “Change Me On the Inside”! The album, which will be released in 2007 is called “Holy God”.

I have been, and will continue to work with my friend and manager Joey Carbone on new projects for me as a solo artist. Although nothing is happening right now, we are discussing new album projects with a few different company’s. Primarily Frontiers Records in Italy of course!

As far as answering the TOTO touring question......Well that’s up to them! I have been in fairly regular contact with Steve Lukather, and other than talks about some possible 30th anniversary appearances, I am not privy to the bands touring agenda!

Regards,
JSW

15/07/06 - George Grunwald "Too much to say" long awaited new record now available

Sometimes there's an artist who comes to offer you the best musical satisfaction with a record made with love and passion. That's exactly what George Grunwald does with his new album "So much to say", 10 songs recorded in studios all over the world.

Born in Poland, raised in Sweden, his music travelled to far-off places such as Israel and America.
He released several records in a jazz fusion vein with swedish studio musicians and a few years back, his passion for the sound of Los Angeles music scene made him start working on a west coast project.

He knew that project could take time in reuniting musicians, recordings, travelling and getting a signature on a label. From the beginning, george worked with Oli Poulsen (who produced Michael Learns to rock) and famous Swedish musician and composer Hakan Mjornheim who co-wrote all the songs with him. With hard work, help from friends and personal contacts, George Grunwald gathered some great danish musicians and the cream of sessions artists including Joseph Williams (Toto, Vertigo), Bill Champlin (Chicago, Sons Of Champlin), Jason Scheff (Chicago), Tamara Champlin, Warren Wiebe, Lou Pardini (Koinonia) & Alex Ligertwood (Santana, Metro), David Garfield among others.

Recorded in L.A., Copenhagen and Stockholm, "So much to say" is the kind of perfect album you listen to with a smile on your face.
George says "I've always dreamed of finding something unique and original in my music. Groove, harmony, passion, spirit and enthusiasm that's the key. That's why I've got "so much to say" on this album."

Every song is a treasure for westcoast music fans. "Touch the sun", duet with Alex Ligertwood starts with a magical keyboard intro, "Mistery girl" dives you in an enchanting atmosphere and "Save my love" is for me a classic in the vein of the cover song "Cool night" sung by Joseph Williams on his album "I am Alive".

Tracklist:
So Much To Say
Save My Love
You Know
Have I Lost My Girl
I´m Emotional
Touch The Sun
With Every Breath
Mystery Girl
A Love So Right
Don´t Give It Up.

That long awaited album is finally released at the label Icicle Music in Singapore. A European & US release are coming very soon. We let you know...

20/04/06 - Vertigo 2 is annonced on June 9 2006

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of the new Vertigo album simply entitled "2" on June 9 2006.
Vertigo is the studio project featuring former Toto singer Joseph Williams in a melodic rock mood, together with famed bass player and producer Fabrizio Grossi (Glenn Hughes, House of Lords, Starbreaker, Danny Vaughn, Starship etc.).
Williams return on the market in 2003 with Vertigo's first chapter - featuring a sound style based on classic melodic rock - was greeted with much commercial and critical acclaim. It was therefore a natural step for everyone involved to make soon plans for a follow up release.

In the meanwhile Joseph found the opportunity to work again with Toto and his lead vocals shine in the latest single Bottom of Your Soul off of the very successful Falling In Between album released worldwide on Frontiers Records.

On Vertigo 2, Joseph and Fabrizio are joined by world class players such as Alex Masi on guitars, Virgil Donati (Soul Sirkus, Ring Of Fire) on drums and Jason Scheff (Chicago, background vocals on Hold Me).
Joseph this time did also contribute to the songwriting co-writing with producer and long-time associate Joey Carbone the mega-AOR uptempo I Want To Live Forever. Some other songs were eventually selected through some of Joseph most contemporary influences and preferences.
The resulting record, is another threat for the melodic rock fans and a real must for all lovers of the sound of Toto and of course for all those who have enjoyed Vertigo's chapter one.
Final tracklisting is as follows (click on the song title to listen to an MP3 sample):

In The Blink Of An Eye
All For You
Hold Me
Part Of Me
Holy
I Wanna Live Forever
Save It All Alone
Picking Up The Pieces
Together (Good-Bye So Long)
There's A Reason.

Release date is scheduled on Frontiers Records in Europe on June 9 with release in the USA on Locomotive and Japan on King Records.

14/04/06 - Mail from Luke for all the fans about Joseph and the past

"Nick, PLEASE write that hangin' and playin with Joe was such a groove! He is better than EVER and I have missed his presence and his awesome vibe and humour and it just felt like no time has passed. He is singing his ASS off and I see us doing more in the future ALL of us together. Bobby and Joe and I and now Greg have an amazing blend vocally and look out for the 30th anniversary tour and more collaborations in the future. Funny how time and growing up and ALL of us forgiving and moving forward makes so much sense and is so positive! Thats what happened with Bobby and us, Joe was a huge part of our success post Toto IV and Joe and I go back to high school and he is an awesome musician and probably the funniest cat I have ever known. I LOVE getting older so I can go back and try and fix what went wrong. I was no saint, believe me so when *I* was throwin shit at Bobby and Joe and whomever, I was guilty too. I am sorry for that and the greatest thing about life and getting older is that we can ALL look at ourselves and say " I'm sorry" and mean it! It's very cool and I am very happy about all that has gone down in last year with all that negative shit being behind us. More great music to come.
Life is a trip.
God Bless
Luke"

I am off to do CNN USA today so we are getting alot of TV and press in the coming weeks, more so in the USA than in 20 years, so we are giving it a shot. Lots of satellite radio stuff too. Terrestrial radio is dead and we have alot of interest on XM and Sirius so its all good there. We shall see, we shall see, hahaha."

Toto will appear on two TV shows this month in the USA. Tuesday on Extra and on April 20th on Live! With Regis & Kelly, the largest syndicated morning talk show in the United States. This is broadcast all over the entire country. The band will promote the April 18th US release of Falling in between, as well as their upcoming US Tour.

10/02/06 - Steve Lukather talk about the concert canceled in France and the arrival from Joe on the tour with Toto

totoweb :

Hi luke
and congratulations for the new album !!
-so, do you have some news about the concert who is canceled in Lille (France)?
-can you tell me please, if joe will come sing in some concerts? (the big question of the fans of this time !)
many thanks

Luke

We had nothing to do with the cancellation. It was the promoter and maybe cause it was so soon without a new record he wanted to re-schedule for or FALL tour 2006.
Sorry, I love playin France and Lille rocks and is a great city!
Joe is on the record, hell, he was at rehearsal today just hangin out. Joe is not gonna play with us this tour BUT.. I see this happening down the line WITH Bobby and maybe Steve Porcaro and Paich too.. could be fun for a 30th anniversary smalll tour and DVD?? Nothing is for sure but no one said NO and more or less said Yes. Its all about scheduling and making a good deal for everyone.
Thats it for now, I am tired from rehearsals and all the press and doing other projects ALL at the same time. I have to go on the road to get rest! hahaha
Love to all
Luke

Where are the children we lost not long ago
Feel for the Mothers who weep for them
I pray for the Fathers who are standing by their side
In their world of pain and suffering

Have you ever seen the look in a hungry child's eyes
They can't eat money or promises
Give them your smile and try holding out your hand
Let them know you're there, let them know you're there

Chorus
Why is it always the ones that we love
Are the ones that will never come home
Why must all of the bridges we cross take their toll
Always remember the voice in your head
Speaks to you when you're alone
And it comforts you
From the top of your heart to the bottom of your soul

You can swim in a river of tears they cry
For they sleep on the winds of uncertainty
Show us a sign and make us believe again
There's no other way, oh, there's no other way

Chorus
Instrumental Break
Chorus
